Training in welding is critical to meet job demands today — and tomorrow. It's a must to build operator skills faster, screen job applicants, and even improve existing welding techniques. For Chris Lacenski and Doug Tennant, welding student and instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, a new tool that combines a weld simulator with a live arc MIG welder is the solution. See how they are using the LiveArc™ Welding Performance Management System as a helping hand in the welding lab.   Click on the links above for more information

    2014 Certification

It's that time of the year again that we begin our planning to attend the NMPA Annual Convention in Las Vegas.  For the "old timers", it's a time to renew friendships, share experience and take a short break from the hectic summer season.  For our newer associates, it's a time to make new friendships and learn some things that can be put into practice to enhance business and hopefully make the job a little easier...and yes...have some fun too!

The NMPA offers several levels of certification to promote quality and professionalism in the business.  Aluminum, stainless and inboard are the three currently offered.   For the past several years, your Certification Committee has been offering certification testing at the convention.  This year, we will be offering the Stainless Certification.  Once again, through the generosity of Kevin Taylor, owner of R&R Propeller, we will hold the practical exam at his shop in Henderson, NV, a short drive from Vegas.

The Stainless Exam will have a limit of 6 applicants.  The prerequisite is to hold the Aluminum Certification.  Since the candidate will have already demonstrated the use of pitching, cupping and balancing, this exam will consist of welding and blending of a damaged stainless propeller.  The cost is $230 and all materials plus propeller will be supplied.  The testing will be held at R&R Propeller and begin at 9am on Thursday, October 23rd.  Transportation will be available.

The deadline for enrollment is October 10th.  Contact Don Jackson at 616-235-6672 to reserve your spot Today!

    <<Taken from Bill's Obituary>>

    William Ludwig
    Bill's Prop Shop
    7464 Old Moro
    Moro, IL
We are saddened by Bill Ludwig
passing away after a lingering illness.
He was a charter member of the National
    Marine Propeller Association.
He gave the his wealth of knowledge
and his support to the NMPA, he was
one of two members awarded the
NMPA’s Life Member award. In addition
    to his many achievements, he
was the primary preparation and final
    examination station for the NMPA’s
    Certification program and was looked
upon as a source of information to
NMPA members. Bill always had a
“back pack” of jokes and stories that
he shared with the members while in
attendance at the annual NMPA Convention.
    Bill was never satisfied with
being number two in any thing that
he was a part of. He was also shared
the distinction of being one of first
two members to be certified in Aluminum
    and Stainless Steel propeller
repair. We will certainly miss Bill.

Do the ever present escalating costs of presenting our annual National Marine Propeller Association Convention

We are raising the individual convention fee by $ 5.00 to $ 225.00

and our Exhibitors by $ 25.00 per table

I regret raising anything but we have absorbed a small increase every year for the past 5 years or more.

We have not raised the membership dues for a number of years. Hence we must raise by $ 5.00 also to $ 225.00

We feel that this small increase will offset the additional cost

and turn a “Red Ink” problem to “Black Ink” solution.  Thank you for your support.  Let me know if anyone has any questions or concerns.  Either e-mail ( or call 616-235-6672

    Sincerely Don
